RAIN is one of my current Wonders of the Heart

The Texas drought is one of the worst in over 130 years. That is going back into Texas History pretty darn far.

We had over 80 days of temperatures in the triple digits. We are behind in rainfall for this year right at 30 inches and we were behind last year 18 inches.

Finally on Sunday night we had a cold front whip through and meet some rare gulf moisture and wham... God is giving... and we had an inch of rain.

God is good...and this is a treasure in our lives... a simple wonder of the heart.

Gift of Love

As I start this process out on this page... wonders of the heart, it is to find things in my life or the lives of my family that bring great joy. Next will be to have an image to share it with you.

This by far is NOT the most important wonder in my life... God takes that fully by hand and heart...but I had this wonderful picture of Lilly, my granddog and I wanted to share it.

Lilly is a wonder and a blessing to Tara and Justin. So is Piggy aka "Bridget.

Both puppies in this household are loved deeply and both were rescue dogs.

A gift... of love.

COMFORT in HIM

Life moves forward around us every single second. Those seconds make minutes and those add up to days, months and years. Moments can be filled with joy or sorrow, peace or chaos, but through it all despite discontentment or circumstance I must trust that God's hand is in everything. I have to turn to Him.

Truly making a day would be impossible with out His presence in our lives. Some days are harder than others when the situations involve those I love and I feel so helpless to meeting their needs. I have to remind myself, only God can meet those needs not me. In the depths of 'hell' the only source for good and light is the Father.

You will find if you can get to that place of relying on Him you will have balance in the moment and regain your ground. This works through times of discord and despair.

God brings harmony if you are listening and waiting on Him and through this you will find peace.

DRESS UP

We arrived at Tara and Justin's house last week and Tara brought out this special box. It was medium large in size and we were all inquisitive. As she pulled the box open out erupted beautiful fabrics in every imaginable color. It was memorizing just to witness the box opening. These rich fabrics were her collection of dance costumes over the years of dancing. After every performance her mother had carefully packed away the costume, collecting many years together in this one special box.

Lady L was in awe of the colors and the fabrics and she reached out, eyes sparkling with a growing smile across her face. Tara carefully pulled each one out and spread them across the floor as Lady L ran between them giggling try hard to make a choice of a favorite one to put on.

In this life we are often faced with decisions about things. That is where my dad would say, "Laurie, have you made your list of priorities?" Artist friend from Colorado, Armella Benton, reminded me of that this summer when I was struggling with health issues and the heat. Sometimes we have very limited choices and other times we are overcome with too many choices.

Finally Lady L choose a beautiful pink netted dress with white dots and black ribbon. ( I wish I could show you the whole picture... it is awesome.) She even managed to hold her dress up as she waltzed around the room dancing in this floaty puffy netting.

Choices we make in life usually affect deeper things. Sometimes our choices affect other people. Our negative choices often weigh heavily on those that love us, forcing them to make choices of their own creating a domino affect in a family. With every choice is a consequence and we must always consider what will follow with the decisions we make.

Brings back vivid memories of Sesame Street when they would run that story about 'IF I DO THIS...then this will happen, which will make this happen and then that will happen.' Maybe we need to think about things in a simple way like this... Make your list first and then a second list of the things that could happen from your initial decision.

Seems like in today's world the pressure is so intense we make hasty decisions often regretting them later in the day or even later in life. Too bad life is not as easy as Lady L sees it. It should be...God wants it to be. He wants us to live our life and be happy, NOT stressed.

I had to throw in a picture of my outdoor boots for a laugh.... quite a contrast from Lady L's precious pink... but it brings me back to what I wanted to blog about this morning. Dress Up or dress down with boots? Is it important to dress up to impress people with who we think we are? That is where I was going originally with this blog. What does your 'dress up' have to do with who you are?

Know a man/woman by their actions and their travels through life. We all leave a trail on this planet with our choices and our actions. How we 'Dress Up' our lives and our appearance means very little if we are dark of heart. Do not judge by appearance but judge by heart and actions. Those decisions you make today create changes in the future, basically echoing on forever.

Morning Climb

BibleGateway.com is a site I use to look up my bible verses and to cross reference things. I also subscribe to their daily thoughts but rarely have time to read them. The one yesterday caught my eye because of all the things I have been writing this week.

I personally feel like the climb has begun physically (Challenge 47) as I began my exercise program of a promise of at least 100 minutes a week. I am up to 40 min in the two days so far... and should exceed this weekly, but I up till now since last fall, I have done ZERO per week. Last year at this time I worked out almost an hour every day. I need to get back to that level.

When I wrote about the bridge yesterday and crossing the vast misty valley... it rang a bell in my head when I read about climbing the mountain in a swift glance to the morning mail out. They compared the getting to know Christ with the climbing of a mountain. When you are at the foot of the mountain your eyes cannot see very much. When you live in the valley of a mountain you are limited to what is there at ground level... you miss out on other things.

As you climb the first knoll of the mountain you can see a bit further and experience a bit more as your mind expands with the new views and all you are taking in. The higher you climb the more you see and your mind expands with thoughts.

The more you get to know Christ, the more you discover the beauty of His love. The heights and depths of His love are incomprehensible. (Yeah, remember that song, My love is deeper than the deepest ocean wider than a mile...etc).

"But who has ever gained the summit? Who has known all the heights and depths of the love of Christ which passes knowledge? Paul, when grown old, sitting grey-haired, shivering in a dungeon in Rome, could say with greater emphasis than we can, "I know whom I have believed" for each experience had been like the climbing of a hill, each trial had been like ascending another summit and his death seemed like gaining the top of the mountain, form which he could see the whole of the faithfulness and the love of him to whom he had committed his soul. CROSSING OVER

Sometimes there is a long bridge ahead in life. The bridge is crossing over open deep gorges of things unknown that are lost in a dark mist. The bridge is so long you cannot see the land on the other side, and yet you have no choice but to move forward and cross the bridge. You are paralyzed in fear before you even begin with the first step.

How would you cross over? Easy answer for me who does not like to drive. If it were a driving situation I typically hit a bridge and go fast fast fast....I figure if I go slow the anguish and fear have longer to take hold of me... so it is easier to take a deep cleansing breath and increase my speed to cross knowing full well God is right beside me in the process.

But what if the bridge is soooo long that you cannot do that? Whether by foot or by the use of transportation...it is a 5 mile bridge.

In life there are always times and occurrences that loom before us like the unending bridge. We have no insight as to what is on the other side of the bridge and the alternative route of climbing through the rocks below and wading through dark foreboding streams is not acceptable. God has made it clear to us that our path is only on this bridge and it is only one way and there is no other choice left open to us. Things are out of our control, yet GOD is not out of our grasp. He is right there.

He will walk you across that bridge. He will carry you across that bridge. The importance is your acceptance to give up control and have total faith in the upcoming journey. He wants you to view it as something with possibilities and keep your mind open while you listen for His directions in your life. Don't assume anything. Be still and know that He is God. He is your protector, your strength and your guide as you make this crossing over.

ESCAPE

Do you ever think about 'escaping' from a situation when you begin to feel uncomfortable or you are ready to NOT be there? That could include relationships as well as situations. Have you ever tried to escape yourself?

We all have our inadequacies. We feel we are not good enough, or pretty or handsome enough, or our feet are too big or we are not good enough to snag that better job with more pay. We limit ourselves all the time. We measure social success and financial success and when we fall in the bottom it just reaffirms what we have felt.. that we are simply not good enough. We seem to have this inborn sense of discontent of who we are and what our lack of gifts seems to be. We may have the drive and the incentive to complete things but we never seem to see results that prove us to be worthy. This is the human condition of insecurity. NOBODY escapes this. Our self-centeredness keeps us focused inward on ourselves. Always it is our attempt to meet the needs of our ego. We become slaves to those needs and all of our energy is devote to what we feel we are missing in our lives.

ESCAPE... now is the time to re-frame this and begin your escape. It is time to say goodbye to the squirrel cage you are running. The goodbye has to precede a hello. Are you ready to try it? You must say goodbye to your old habits and your old ways of thinking, your aversions and attractions, your egoism and your pride. Don't forget your preconceived thoughts of failure as well as the years of conditioning based on fears and hopes. Time to say goodbye. These are patterns of thinking and behavior that God does not want for us. Our human nature keeps us on that treadmill behavior.

To escape you must be ready to say goodbye and recognize and admit to yourself you must stop thinking in this way. Step back from situations and thoughts and look from the outside in. Stay detached and impartial if you can. As you begin to view your behavior patterns you will learn to accept them and heal with positive change. Insecurities will no longer hold you. You said your goodbyes. Allow yourself to just be you...nothing else. JUST YOU.

Now say hello to a new awareness and the beginning of a new relationship with yourself through God. Keep everything based on peace and calm. Praying to God and spending time speaking to Him is a positive way to relearn good thinking patterns. You are never alone if you are a believer. God is with you at every breath in everything you do.

Stop running. God is the way.

Who Are You?

We just returned from a break neck trip to Santa Fe to deliver 24 paintings for my Show in Denver in mid July. That is why I missed blogging yesterday as we drove home 11 hours straight.

Riding for long journeys and experiences from life give cause to reflection. I visited several galleries in Santa Fe since I had REAL work with me to share. I was offered representation at one gallery for sure and am truly excited about the possibilities. When you are 'on' for interviewing or selling yourself or your work it is draining. That is what caused the reflection and the writing of this blog this morning.

Who are you as an artist? Who are you as a person? The most challenging thing to accept for an artist is the reality of having to sell not just your artwork but yourself. You are a product entity in a whole.. you and your art. In this world of massive competition and struggle how do you stand out? What makes you unique? What makes your artwork unique that when viewed someone says, "Artist SO and So painted this" or "this is Artist So and So". You and your work are indivisible. Your work is your fingerprint in the art world.

Somewhere along the line if you are doing this right, the marketing part, you hit the wall and want to crawl slowly away from the heavy hitting and just create again. Retreat, renew and review where you are. Learn new things and play again. Rediscover a new voice inside of you.

Do you ever 'replay' incidents in your head and moan, 'Why did I say that?' Or think about ways you could have responded better to a conversation?

Several months ago I wrote about shields we all put up to guard ourselves from hurt. Those shields not only guard us (or we think they do) but they keep us from seeing in the mirror who we really are. Who are you?

When thinking about artists that I have meet over the past few years, most of us love each other as well as admire and respect each other. Jamie and Gretchen from New York that I meet last fall are probably two of the most genuine, giving, caring artists I have met. There was absolutely no shield in place; no protection or hiding or misrepresentation of who they were. Open, loving, welcoming, creative women. No agenda list. No expectations. Only genuine warmth and welcome to the Hudson River Valley. I believe they are both so passionate about their work that nothing else interferes with their creativity.

I literally stay running in circles between painting, marketing, wife-ing, grandmothering, mothering and back to promoting and helping close to 750 artist with their marketing, advertising etc. Who am I?

I know what am I, and that is tired! While I accept the responsibility to be professional and the need to be 'on', it gives me pause this time. Can I live the other way? Is that possible?

Is that not what is offered to us from God? Drop the shield and stop playing the games and over-working. What is it all for? What does it gain you in this lifetime or with Him? Why is it all necessary? Who are you?

On the way home in the car yesterday I begin to reflect on this. Who am I when I am not 'on'? My shield is so thick I cannot see around it to step back and view it from outside looking in.

Time to renew and reflect this week. Praising God for a good night's sleep. It was needed.

He Follows You

I finished up this wolf painting yesterday and enjoyed the results of my labor. Terry complained that the eyes of the wolf followed him around the room. The best part was when Paddy came in and lowered himself in a stance and began growling at it. I knew I was done then. Those brilliant eyes... they seem to capture you and follow you where ever you go.

God follows you where ever you go as well. His essence or spirit is with in you, abiding with in to empower you for God's good. God knows what you will think before the thought even blooms in your head. He knows what you need before you even realize it. He does not really just follow you...rather He is leading you. You must be ready to follow Him.

This weekend is the wine festival and Mayfair Art show here in Mt Vernon. I am suppose to be in town but waiting to see how Terry is feeling. He has a touch of bronchitis we think he caught from Lady L. I wish I could share on my blog the video Stacey sent yesterday of Lady L. She was painting and she kept saying OMA PAINTS.... how can I love a grandchild so deeply? Stacey says she is a pawprint of me... which makes me giggle because NONE of my three children are like me with art or music. Morgan comes close, but not in the sense of the essence of I am art, Art I am....but Lady L does. She loves piano, guitar and harp and painting and drawing.... Made me want to get in the car and drive two hours to paint with her.

A Friend Smiles

I was working hard in the studio yesterday finishing up this piece and working on the bear I began at the workshop. The doorbell rang and it was Ann Morgan, one of the workshop attendees and now a new friend from across the lake.

We were instantly talking about the workshop and about Jane, the wonderful artist from New Zealand. Jane is an artist that is so respectful of mother-earth and all God has created. The land is apart of Jane. Her work celebrates the beauty and bounty of the Earth.

When a friend smiles they share the bounty of life and love. Life is fuller with our friends. God give us boundless moments to enjoy our lives and everything surrounding us. We are often too busy to even realize what is there for us and who is there for us.

The next time a friend smiles, know the light that comes from that smile is from Him. As you give to others, you open the way for them to be blessed with greater blessings through God.

SPACE and ORDER

One of the things I will cover in my upcoming workshop is SPACE. Sometimes when drawing or sketching the use of negative space brings things into alignment on your paper. Sketching space instead of the object itself. The space gives order to the object.

In your life there is what is called Spiritual Vision. With this vision to are open in heart and soul to the divine order or space God has placed around you and in you. You are part of His plan and His order in this world. From tiny atoms and molecules come large mountains and wide seas. God supports all of the earth through the seasons, the ebbing tides and rotation of the planets. He provides shelter for us and food for our hunger. He blesses us with beauty.

Divine order is present in nature as well as in you. There are constantly opportunities for you to begin new things and rework older projects. There is constant renewal and growth, new ideas and continual heavenly inspiration. His divine order blesses all of our lives and provide everything we need. (note need and not want.)

Time to not only open your eyes but your heart and soul to use your vision to see the Divine Order He has prepared for you. His Spirit guides you through each day.

Layers of oil cover the original acrylic base. This may be done and it may not be. It is hanging in the drying room and I will address it next week... but this is the progress on this abstract horse painting...the White Stallion.

The passion of red played into this horse painting and it is very strong in its presence. This painting is for my show in Denver this summer at Mirada Fine Art.

Sharing Prosperity

When you read the word prosperity what comes to mind? Money? Not in our household. Prosperity refers to the abundance God grants us minute by minute, day by day. Sharing our love with others and exchanging kindnesses is pure prosperity.

I love smiling at strangers. Sometimes it is a game to force them to see you and look you in the eyes as you smile a broad grin and say GOOD MORNING. When someone has sick family members it is kind to take food to them. This is sharing your prosperity. When your neighbor needs to borrow a cup of sugar, you give her two cups. You life will be blessed in return for all that you do give so graciously because you have not expected anything in return.

Abundance is not measured by money or possessions, but by moment to moment gifts and blessings from the Father. Share what you can of what you have with others. Personal Spirituality?

My husband often tells me I live in my world with my rose colored glasses. I do not like to watch the news. I do not like horror shows, murder mysteries, or noisy gun movies. I do not like violence. I live in MY WORLD. Yes and you live in your world.

In my world there is beauty, kindness, sharing, sunshine, rain (when needed) and every person is giving and caring for each other. That is my perfect world. Some might call it Neverland.

It does not exist. All of us live through horrendous happenings, ugly moments, illness, arguments, failures and we seem to remember those better than our fabulous moments of sheer joy and laughter. It would be slightly delusional to think we could wipe away the ugliness that seems to drag us down. That shadow of doubt that creeps into our daily lives dimming the light and they joy we have at that moment.

Our world is basically a broken world. We are broken people, far from perfect. A dear friend wrote me about the need to not exist every day, but to live with joy again in her life. How do you get there? Neverland seems a galaxy away...but is it really?

You have to take joy and embrace it. You have to look into the mirror and see you as you are, broken and tired... and love that broken person again. God loves you so much. He has so much for you. He has promised you the delights of your heart. You can't get there if you do not believe in Him. Every day begin again with joy. Every day count your blessings...all the GOOD wonderful things you can find surrounding you. Roses blooming in your neighbors yard, the warmth of the sun, the awesome feeling of a warm shower as you wake up in the morning, the first cup of coffee or hot tea. If you are not feeling joy, you have allowed your senses to die. You cannot feel anymore, so you must learn to feel again. Focus on visual one day. The next day focus on touch. The day after focus on taste.

Learn how to be joyful day by day and it will slowly return. My spirituality is based on the beauty that God brings into each moment. I thank my Mother for instilling this in our home and our lives.

This was painted for one of my earliest collectors. She wanted a brilliant sunset painting with corals, oranges, turquoise, blues, reds and every other color you could imagine. Done with a palette knife and about 10 layers of paint, she has her sunset sail for her Florida home.
Terry corrected my sails before I started on this one. Being a sailor, he is very much in tune with the jibs, mainsails etc and is always quick to correct my drawings if I am off for my sailboat paintings.

Adversity

I was not sure what I wanted to write about last night but after much prayer and the completion of this painting, I decide to write about adversity in our lives. When you sail you basically have to rely on the weather, the wind and your skills. There are not motors on our sailboats. I know last summer I shared the story of one terrific storm that blew up on us with thunder, lightening and wind that was against us as we tacked into our cove to tie up the boat.

I was frightened; just like the disciples were frightened in the boat during the storm. I prayed and told Terry I wanted to see our grand-daughter again. We worked hard together to bring that boat in safely and knew our true safety was in God's hands as lightening crackled around us with our huge mast soaring into the dark clouds. We both were paddling until Terry stopped and began pulling sails down because the wind was blowing us back out into the middle of the lake.

What do you do in life when troubles come? It comes in many names: accidents, afflictions, bereavement, difficulties, disasters, failures, disappointments, hard times, misfortunes, suffering...I could keep typing but I know you get the point. It always seems to arrive unexpectedly. Adversity is defined as something acting against you. You read about it throughout the Bible. Sometimes it was sent from God directly to strengthen people, or sometimes it was sent by Satan. God even allows it from Satan for growth of our spirit and soul. We even face difficult challenges we bring to ourselves.

Just like change, adversity is something you can count on to happen. We all are confronted with painful situations. The hardest for me is when is affects our children and grandchildren. When it is us, the adult, we have experience and decisions that we have to make dealing with the negative situation. A child does not have the life experiences to put things into context. Often they do not fear as we fear because they are still so innocent.

When our eldest grandson fell ill and died from unexpected seizures and brain swelling, it came out of nowhere... or so we thought. He died. He just died. He had a mild case of the flu and he died. How do you deal with that? No warning...he died. We had just celebrated his 11th birthday two months earlier.

I have a dear friend whose youngest son has a rare kidney cancer. Rare enough that he is in the 10 percent that holds little hope for survival. They are 3/4's of the way through chemo treatments and their lives are upside down as they all struggle in the family to cope with this assault on the youngest member. Mom and dad cannot row hard enough to get the boat to the shore... they have to rest in the waves and wind and trust in God.

What are you experiencing right now that requires endurance and faith in our Lord? "God will not let you slip and fall..." Psalm 9:12.

Don't Give Them the Power

Somewhere someone is truly hurting over something from their past or from something recent. We can be violated by words or actions. The hurt that ensues can be emotional as well as psychological. Actions of people stronger than we are seem to really damage us more and it is common to dwell on the situation with anger and depression feeling unworthy as well as hurt.

What you need to know is that person truly does not have power over you. They only have power over you if you allow them to. Do not give them that part of you. God made you and you are precious in His sight. Bad things happen to all people and we have the responsibility to face what was, accept it and move forward in God's grace. Protect yourself if you are in a dangerous situation, move out of it. Do not stay in a situation that keeps you vulnerable.

After being hurt it is hard to move on...but you must and you must find forgiveness for the other person. Bitterness or fear keeps the power in their hands...and you want to get past it.

Empower yourself with the Love of God. Celebrate the beauty He created in you. Give your thanks to Him and He in turn will empower you to face anything and everything. The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you.

On The Wind of Joy

She flitted around the house in her Tinkerbell-like outfit, pretending to fly and soar on the wind around the living room making circles around the couches and tables. Her voice had a beautiful sing-song quality that rang with happy notes of joy and pleasure at just being alive. It was quite the contrast from the two year old tantrum in the bathtub the night before when she did not want anyone washing her hair.

The wild swings of joy and frustration of being age two reminded me that it was a mirror of what we often see in adults. Night before last I crawled into bed, the last night Lady L would be here this trip...worn but happy. Terry was in the den with Larry watching the latest episode of Top Gear, a favorite in our household. Stacey had fallen asleep a few hours earlier with Lady L, both tuckered out. I climbed into bed with a tv remote in my hand. I NEVER have control of the remote as I rarely watch TV; I thumbed my way through the 500 plus channels and was amazed at how much I had NOT missed in life. I did find Sweet Home Alabama on the Love Channel and settled in to watch the last hour of it. Rather sappy but the part that got me was the end. As the two destined romantics arrived at their seven year late wedding reception, the joy of life and celebrating was so contagious I cried happy tears in response.

Why can we not live like this always? Why can we not find this much joy in every thing we do? I switched off the tv at 10:30... Terry had crawled in bed about 15 minutes earlier and was already sound asleep... and I prayed... and had this 'feeling' that I truly need to make more joy each day. I need to celebrate life each day. I need to praise Him more each day and I need to bring back to my marriage this same joyful nature of the fullness of life.

So when I drug out this canvas above ... that was drawn off last November, I picked up my palette knife and went to work. I worked through most of the afternoon and into the evening until after eight... and I think I am finished. This was joy in the making. Painting for my show opening in Denver in July this summer.... pure joy in celebration of life, love, freedom, energy,...all the good things in life...expressed through color and my palette knife. I hope you enjoy the story and the semi-abstract appaloosa painting above.

Joy to you. Joy is in the air; you can feel it in the wind and in your heart. God is calling to you.

Still a few more weeks to sign up for the art workshop. You do not need to be an accomplished painter to participate...any level artist will learn much from the three day gathering.

This is another one of my miniatures that I am preparing for larger paintings for my upcoming Denver Show in July at Mirada Fine art. I am hoping to do a painting on site at the gallery if we are able to arrange it.

The base was a rusty orange coating of acrylic with heavy overlays of oil paint.

Yesterday we began working on clearing the banks of the pond some more. We are under a burn ban so we will continue to clear and then have to pay to have someone come clear the trash of trees and limbs from our lot. We desperately need rain. My prayers this next week are focused on just that.

Make a list of things to pray about this week and keep up with it... even if you do not make another ...keep up with this first one. Pray daily about the things on your list...and when you find answers for those prayers, date the list next to that item. It is a wonderful way to see God at work as He does answer prayers. Not always the way we want him to, but things evolve and resolve.

IF There is Doubt, Don't do it.

Terry and I were collapsed on the couch yesterday around four and Oprah was on when we switched on the tv to veg out to fresh baked Tilapia, summer squash, sweet potato fries, and a big salad. (Oh also a bowl of fresh cut up strawberries, apples and grapes) We both worked hard all day... up till eight last night. I was washing sheets and preparing the guest room for the RETURN OF LADY L and her parents. How cool is that?

She is a right handed painter and loves painting with me in the studio.

It was a rerun on Oprah from her trip down under to Australia and we enjoyed everything we saw on the journey. Russell Crow had Oprah out on a sailboat and she asked him if the Oscar had changed his life. He said it really did not as he did his job every day... just like anyone does and the Academy Awards truly had nothing to do with his job. He told Oprah that she had affected his life dramatically and he always remembered her words, "If there is doubt, don't do it." Russell Crow applies this in his life even today. Using that inner voice that you ALWAYS hear when it tells you to do or not to do.

So I am sharing that with you today...if you are like me sometimes you get carried away with following others or following a dream you have that you need to do something. Deep inside there is something nagging you but you ignore it. You want to control your life and you go in the direction you think is best despite that inner voice.

Listen... God is talking.. He is that inner voice.

Well when I went to bed last night it was still snowing. I know we have over a foot on the ground and we were not suppose to even have an inch. Go figure.

Tonight is the formal Charity Ball in Mt Pleasant for Cypress Basin Hospice. I am hoping it warms up enough to start melting the snow so we can drive there! This will be revealed in a few hours I am sure.

I spoke with Selah Ranch yesterday and I am going to delay my workshop until May. I will have a confirmed date and syllabus out in about 7-10 days. I am working in God's time with this. They had suggested I do it the first of April, but I never felt confident with that date. May feels better to me. Selah Ranch is an absolutely gorgeous retreat based on renewal, retreat and rest. That is what I want for every artist that attends. I also encourage husbands and friends to come along. It is a vacation inside a workshop. Candy, the owner is putting together a package where all meals will be included as well as snacks and drinks during your stay. As soon as I get those figures from her and a date confirmed, I will have it posted on the blog on the side where you can click and down load a pdf with all the information on it.

Have you ever realized how when you are happy or excited about something that your joy reaches out and affects everyone around you? It is contagious. When you share happy times with friends and family you easily pass the joyful high on to anyone you meet over the next few days or even weeks. This is my goal for the workshop. Make it your goal in life. Share the joy.

This is the other donated painting for the auction. It is a live auction but if you want to place a bid, contact Karen. Tell her in the email it is for the music painting. This painting includes a beautiful custom frame.

Those of you that follow my blog know that Hospice means much to us after the death of my father-in-law Ben Pace. Hospice is no longer just care at the end in the last six weeks of life. Hospice today is care for all levels of need and is in place for the comfort of the patient at all times. Hospice is family based for quality end of life care that provides compassion, dignity, independence and respect. Many patients go on Hospice that provides care once or twice a week and stay at that level until the need arises to go to 24 hour care.

Terry and I support this beautiful transition that is available for families dealing with life limiting illness that strike their loved ones. His father Ben was a picture of health and once his breathing issues surfaced, it was only about a year longer that he lived and the last two months were a nightmare for him.

Here is a bit of information about this specific event in Mt Pleasant Texas. It is an honor to be apart of this fundraiser.

Hearts for Hospice Ball

“The social event of the year for this part of Northeast Texas”, is how one guest describes the most successful fundraiser for Cypress Basin Hospice. This “Black Tie Optional” event is held on the first Saturday in February and is presented by an all volunteer group of individuals from the communities served by the Cypress Basin Hospice. Mark Scirto, a well known Tyler celebrity, and meteorologist serves as the Master of Ceremonies. The prestigious evening includes a catered meal, action packed silent and live auctions, and live music from the “Grateful Geezers”, a Houston band who has performed at this event since 2006. Tickets can be purchased through the Cypress Basin Hospice office after January 1st. Don't delay as these tickets sell out fast; corporate sponsorships are also available.

Mirada Gallery sold one of my larger pieces last week, Desert Sun. I was so excited to learn more about the new owner as I did a collector book for her of this painting. She is a gifted poet and I included some of her poetry in her book on the painting. This is the third painting this year they have sold of my work at Mirada. It stayed here in the states. The first one lives in Canada and the second one flew to Australia. I cannot thank Gallery Manager Steve enough for his constant vigilance and work with me for joint marketing and providing what collectors want for their investment. It helps with the wonderful recognition and representation of American Art Collector and Western Art Collector. With the new agreement with Contemporary Fine Art International, there will be new things with Southwest Art.

I finished up this music painting and wanted to share it. It is a commissioned painting and the buyer provided her favorite CD piano music for me to listen to and precious photos of her nephew playing the piano. He is a very talented young man and it was an honor to paint this for his Aunt.

My Website On Golden Pond Blog

This painting was completed over weeks and literally weeks with much layering. Last night I finished the Collector Book that goes with it. It is a hardback book with pictures from the start to the finish of the painting as it is created. Most collectors love the books as much as their paintings!

I guess we are all collectors in some way or another. Some folks collect coins; some collect books; some collect stamps.... and we could list things forever. What makes collecting so important? What do we seem to value in collecting things?

I am thankful for people who collect art. With out those collectors I would be doing something else. Terry says having your 'stuff' around you is a comforting thing. As we age we begin to learn what is important to keep and what means the most to have around us.

I collect books and some art pieces from fellow artists. I use to collect cups and saucers, but realized about three years ago there was no reason to be doing it any more. Terry and I have downsized quite a bit and those collections have not place in our household anymore.

A good friend was trying to show off her new KINDLE. I do not think I could go there. Maybe a few books on one, but to give away all the collections of books I have... I don't think so. There is something special about holding a book and turning the pages. I especially feel that way about my bible... all of my bibles. There is one here next to me, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. There are more...but those are the main ones.

True comfort for me comes in reading His word. We are collectors of His Word. We are receivers of His Grace and Abundance. His Comfort surrounds and uplifts our family.

The Painting: I am working off one of my own photographs I took about a month ago. I took some good shots of some local cowboys doing a performance. I have not done portrait type work in awhile so this is a wonderful painting exercise. Too much fleshing yellows so I have to overlay some reds and blues and purples with some raw umber mixed in.

This is a painting going to New York this summer. I was invited to be apart of a large equine art show in upper state NY outside Albany. They caught me unexpectedly as I did not submit work to them, they phoned me and asked for artwork and then allowed me extra time to finish a gorgeous piece for the show. It is the 2010 HITS - on- the-Hudson Equestrian Art Exhibition and Auction
